How pathways work
Pathways are:
- Structured — with defined goals and progression
- Guided — offering recommended sequencing and support
- Role-focused — aligned with governance, programming, leadership, and organizational practice
- Flexible — allowing experienced participants to refresh or re-enter where appropriate
Pathways may include a mix of:
- On-demand learning
- Live or recorded sessions
- Event-based learning
- Peer discussion and reflection
- Supporting resources and tools
They are designed to support learning over time, not as one-off training.
What pathways are (and are not)
Pathways are:
- About readiness, responsibility, and contribution
- Designed to support consistent standards and shared practice
- A way to make learning clearer and more navigable
Pathways are not:
- Certification programs
- Mandatory accreditation
- Replacements for station-level volunteer training
- Linear courses with a single “right” pace
Current pathway areas
Pathways are being developed in key areas, including:
- Governance & Board Leadership
- Programming & Content Practice
- Organizational Leadership & Management
Additional pathways may be added as the learning system evolves.
Learning that grows with the sector
Pathways are part of a broader learning ecosystem that includes events, shared resources, and peer learning. Together, they support individual growth, organizational strength, and long-term sustainability across community and campus media.
Pathways reflect learning supported over time. Not all components are delivered in the same format or schedule.
